“A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh.”

MK 10:7-8

Marriage

“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.”  Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1601

The sacrament of matrimony is celebrated for a man and a woman wishing to be wed in Christian Marriage. The couple must call the parish before setting the date of marriage and at least 8 months prior to the desired date.

The 8 month preparation period is a requirement of the Archdiocese of Denver to ensure that the future spouses are given the greatest opportunity to fully prepare for this lifelong sacrament in which each spouse gives themselves irrevocably to the other. Such a sacred gift of self is held in the highest esteem by the Church, and as such treated with great care and protection.

Marriage Preparation Consists of:

  • Regular meetings with clergy
    • Clergy helps to guide couples through the process, as well as facilitates discussions around the spiritual preparation for marriage.
  • FOCCUS inventory
    • Each future spouse, apart from the other, fills out a questionnaire so as to better assess where they might have fruitful discussion regarding their future life together, including communication skills, financial plans, family values, and individual habits. It is not a test that determines whether a couple can marry.
  • NFP Class
    • These classes teach couples about God’s gift of fertility, and how to navigate natural family planning together as a couple. Couples have the option to pursue one of many methods, including Marquette, Creighton, Sympto-Thermal, or Billings.
  • Marriage Retreat Weekend

More details will be given after contacting the parish
