Children of Mary Sodality

Sodalities were an integral part of parish life in Catholic Churches worldwide for over a century.  They are a lay ministry intended to bring Marian devotion, community service & a social experience to practicing Catholics at every stage of life.

Female sodalities were popular of various ages. They gathered to learn about and become more involved in their faith, serve their parish community and possibly even discern the possibility of a religious life.  It was a ministry where friendships were made and lasted lifetimes.  They fell out of fashion somewhere around the 1960’s for various reasons but St. John’s agrees their mission has never been more necessary.

OUR MISSION

PLEASE NOTE:

The St. John’s sodality is currently inactive, after founding leaders moved away during COVID. If you are interested in helping to lead and reactivate the sodality, please email daniellec@johnthebaptist.org

The motivation in bringing a girls sodality to our parish was to offer our young ladies a counter cultural experience which combats the evils of relativism that is safe, fun and seeped in their faith. We have consecrated ourselves and efforts to Mary.  We are devoted to moving ourselves closer to Mary’s example of purity, humility and modesty.

We take time out of our busy schedules to embrace the Truths and Traditions of Catholicism by:

Past activities of the sodality:

  • Meeting on the last Thursday of the month at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel for Adoration followed by attending Reconciliation at 4:30 p.m..
  • Meeting on the first Saturday of the month to recite the Rosary and then gather for a wonderful breakfast. We then broke into age appropriate groups for a short catechesis session.
  • And finally, our ministry completed a fun age appropriate activity which could be related to faith, service or learning a new skill.

Throughout our year together we also planned various outings for the girls and we are granted the opportunity to organize our parish’s annual May Crowning.
