Catholic Religious Education (CREED) is a traditional classroom experience for students in grades K-Teens. At St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, we assist families in their religious, moral, and spiritual growth. We understand and respect that parents are the primary educators of their children, teaching by word and example.

Our parish supports our parents and students by providing quality religious education in a nurturing, faith-filled environment in accordance with Archbishop Aquila and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops or (USCCB).

Through the cooperative efforts of engaged parents, committed catechists and willing students, it is our goal that together we will help our children grow in their love for God, develop their given talents, and live as strong, morally responsible, engaged Catholic members of our community.

What We Offer

In accordance with the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People” established by the USCCB each Diocese must establish a Safe Environment Program. This program requires each parish in the diocese to cooperate with parents, civil authorities, educators, and community organizations to provide education and training for children, youth, parents, ministers, educators and others about ways to create and maintain a safe environment for children.

All volunteers and staff are mandated to complete our diocese’s program “Called to Protect” prior to working among our community.

Our catechists and assistants are devoted, faithful Catholics from St. John the Baptist community. They dutifully volunteer their time to the children of our parish. We are blessed to have multiple professional teachers, homeschool parents and seasoned catechists working with the children of our parish.  These adults are generously rewarded by assisting families in imparting our soul saving faith and Catholic traditions to the children.

If you have ever thought you may be interesting in this type of volunteer work, please call with any questions. Catechists with children in the program receive a discounted tuition for their efforts.

What We Expect

We expect families to honor their minimal Catholic obligations by:

  • Attending regular Mass as a family
  • Receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation at least twice a year during the holy seasons of Lent and Advent

For sacramental aged students enrolled in our program, it is a mandatory requirement that they attend Sunday Mass and are required to “sign-in” each week. It is our pastoral duty as educators of the Catholic faith that we ensure the proper preparation of our candidates. Being an active participant alongside family members and their parish community teaches them far more about their faith more than anything we can provide from a book.

Any sacramental aged student who has 4 or more unexplained absences from Mass and/or class within our calendar year will be asked to return to the program the following year to become better prepared to receive their sacrament.

In the Archdiocese of Denver, students are required to complete two consecutive years of Catholic religious instruction prior to receiving a sacrament here at St. John the Baptist.

At the end of your child’s second year of catechesis, it will be determined if your child has been properly prepared by your child’s Catechist, Liz Smith the Catholic Religious Education Coordinator and Fr. Humberto our Pastor.
