Religious Education for Grades K-12

RE Religious Education

RE Religious Education

St. John’s offers religious education starting in kindergarten and extending up through 12th grade. For 2nd grade and above, the first year of RE prepares students for reconciliation at the end of the year. Students’ 2nd year of RE prepares them to receive confirmation and first communion at the year’s end. We also offer classes for students who have already received their sacraments, with curriculum that changes year to year.

RE begins in September each year, concluding at the end of May.

Enrollment for Religious Education at St. John’s for the 2019-2020 school year has concluded. Please check our website again in June 2020 for registration for the 2020-2021 school year.

Religious Education (R.E.) is a traditional classroom experience for students in grades K-Teens. At St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, we assist families in their religious, moral, and spiritual growth. We understand and respect that parents are the primary educators of their children, teaching by word and example.

Our parish supports our parents and students by providing quality religious education in a nurturing, faith-filled environment in accordance with Archbishop Aquila and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops or (USCCB).

Through the cooperative efforts of engaged parents, committed catechists and willing students, it is our goal that together we will help our children grow in their love for God, develop their given talents, and live as strong, morally responsible, engaged Catholic members of our community.

CATHOLIC FAMILY LIFE

We expect families to honor their minimal Catholic obligations by:

  • Attending regular Mass as a family
  • Receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation at least twice a year during the holy seasons of Lent and Advent

For sacramental aged students enrolled in our program, it is a mandatory requirement that they attend Sunday Mass and are required to “sign-in” each week. It is our pastoral duty as educators of the Catholic faith that we ensure the proper preparation of our candidates. Being an active participant alongside family members and their parish community teaches them far more about their faith more than anything we can provide from a book.

Any sacramental aged student who has 4 or more unexplained absences from Mass and/or class within our calendar year will be asked to return to the program the following year to become better prepared to receive their sacrament.

REGISTERING REQUIREMENTS IN A SACRAMENTAL YEAR

In the Archdiocese of Denver, students are required to complete two consecutive years of Catholic religious instruction prior to receiving a sacrament here at St. John the Baptist.

At the end of your child’s second year of catechesis, it will be determined if your child has been properly prepared by your child’s Catechist, Danielle Coon the Catholic Religious Education Coordinator and Fr. Humberto our Pastor.
