2006 Outreach Report

Thanksgiving 2006

Dear Parish Family:

This past year has been exciting and very busy for the St. John's Outreach Program. Every day we see so many opportunities to help our brothers and sisters in need. We have been fortunate, through your donations and prayers, to achieve the following results and many others, too numerable to list:

  • We have provided over 7,800 food boxes through the St. John's Food Bank. This figure represents over 70,200 lbs of food going to walk-ins, homebound and migrant families.
  • Collected, sorted, and distributed close to 7,000 pounds of clothing, and household items.
  • Coordinated furniture donations and requests for more than 120 families.
  • Provided over $60,000 in rent and utility emergency assistance.
  • Distributed over 675 Holiday meal baskets. (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
  • Collected, sorted, and delivered more than 2,000 Christmas presents through the Jesse Tree program.
  • Provided almost 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to those who would not be able to start the school year with these necessary items.

  • Provided monthly donations to Gabriel Project, Life Choices Pregnancy Center, Safe Shelter of St.Vrain Valley, and the Our Center. These are the highlights of our ministry, but certainly not the whole story. It doesn't speak to the thousands of hours put in by our dedicated volunteers, to make these efforts possible. Also not mentioned are the direct donations to Outreach by the parish through the support of our Gift Shop and the 2 Cents a Meal program. We have been blessed with a Pastor whose vision has brought these responses to life, and the entire Parish Staff, who, at one time or another, has contributed their time and efforts.
We are looking forward to another successful year of giving to those who look to our faith community for help. Because of the increased number of families that we serve weekly, we are actively seeking a larger facility for our food bank. We have recently reorganized our current facility to handle the increased numbers of food baskets however; we are running out of room to provide clothing and household goods. We are considering ideas such as supporting remote food distribution centers and having our food bank open at other times during the week. We are continuing to seek new avenues to spread our stewardship to those in need.
